Through the Rangefinder Thoughts about Photography and Equipment

Zeiss Ikon Nettar 516/2

My local thrift store had a Zeiss Ikon Nettar 516/2 folding camera for sale. How could I resist? I shot a roll of Ilford Delta 100. Taking photos was interesting using this camera. There is no range finder or focusing lens so you have to focus by guessing the distance. This was a challenge, but not too difficult. It would be a much greater challenge for close-up objects. The photos turned out fairly well, but the subject matter wasn't really suited for black and white. I should have been closer to objects with greater contrast and texture. It's probably worth my time to shoot another roll, maybe color this time.

** Update ** Here is link to a photo from the Nettar on Flickr.
It's a lot harder to focus without a focusing screen
